How to Keep Your Skin Healthy During the Summer Months

Summer is quickly approaching with all of its sunshine and heat. Most people love the tanning effects of being outside so much during summer. But in order to get tan, you have to be simultaneously exposed to the damaging, aging UV rays of the sun. As much as we look forward to feeling the sun on our skin, the summer months can take a toll on our skin.

The most common skin problems in the summer include sunburn and damage, heat rash, dry skin, and acne breakouts.

1. Dry and Irritated Skin

It’s easy for your skin to get dehydrated in the sun. Your face may feel dry and even brittle. The same happens in chlorinated pools and air-conditioned indoor facilities. Easy fixes for replenishing lost moisture in your skin include staying hydrated, applying a moisturizing sunscreen before spending time in the sun, and covering your body with a fragrance-free moisturizer after showering.

2. Breakouts and Acne

Believe it or not, hotter temperatures can create the perfect conditions for acne by making you sweat more. Dirt and oil are way more likely to mix with the sweat on your skin and clog your pores. To prevent and avoid breakouts, wash your hands regularly, so you don’t transfer any bacteria to your face. Also, make sure to choose oil-free skin products that won’t clog your pores.

3. Sunburn and Damage

The sun’s UV-A and UV-B rays are very harsh on the skin. They can cause premature aging, fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots. A good sunscreen with an SPF of 30-50 is vital for the summer months for all skin types. Don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours to get the maximum protection!
